Weird Tired & Recycled

“Weird, Tired & Recycled” is an open, ongoing project that began in 2020. It emerged from a spirit of playfulness, experimentation, and recycling of older or unfinished paintings, sketches, prints, images and at times, materials found in public spaces, to create new visual works.
This practice of reuse embraces “collaboration with the material,” making room for controlled accidents, chance, and destruction. The material drives the process because it carries a story, an image that compels you to react to it. It is an approach akin to Dubuffet’s Théâtres de mémoire, the transformative power of Bacon’s weathered materials, and Kiefer’s alchemical deconstruction. In “Weird, Tired & Recycled”, the reuse of a discarded drawing brings forth elements of chance through the encounter of two different moments in time of the same self. Unconnected, raw thoughts from different periods come to the fore, are filtered, form new relationships, and construct a new, polyphonic, and strange world.
